A year-and-a-half in the Army occupation of Japan - most of it in Yokahama - was a huge and important life experience. Growing up in my Dad’s weekly newspaper offices in Somerville, the Somerset Messenger Gazette,where I did all the muscle (no brain) assignments was special. In 1911 my grandfather “CH” Bateman found the great lake and 104 years later the entire family can be seen in July and August on the same wild, out-of-the-way lake.
